Thanksgiving Prayer

Every year, we gather around our table with friends and family feasting over delightful meals specially prepared for Thanksgiving Day. To me, Thanksgiving Day is a day for thanking God for all the blessings we have received.  Good health, good family, good friends, good business, good food, etc. and all the other blessings (jobs, shelter, clothing, etc.) that we, in our busy life, have neglected to realize the impact they make on the quality of our life at present.

Thanksgiving Prayer
"Lord, we thank you for this gathering of friends and family in your presence today, for the gift of life and for good health, for the good food on the table, for more work and stable jobs, for peace and unity in the family and among countries, for the conversion of sinners, for the safety of our soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in the other parts of the world where they get deployed, for a better economy, for the healing of the sick and those in pain, for humility and acceptance of who we are, for your guidance and direction in our everyday life, for safety in our everyday journey, and for a beautiful world without end. Amen."

Remembering Mom on Mother's Day

What's a better way of celebrating Mother's Day than remembering your mother and paying a tribute to all her unconditional love, sacrifices, unselfish and caring ways, together with your loved ones (not all of them) on this special day. Now that I have children of my own, I have come to realize that she was not an ordinary mother; she was a supermom. Looking back, I am amazed at how she was able to juggle her time between her work and her devotion to her kids when we were growing up. She became a widow at the age of 41, her second and last marriage (her first husband was a casualty of war). She remained unmarried until the day she died, unconcerned for the attention quite a few gentlemen had given her. Instead, her time was spent religiously on her obligations to raise her three daughters, and managed to send them to one of the best private schools in the country at that time. On her spare time, she volunteered to teach impoverished young women on home economics, f...

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Wondering why Samantha's eyes are closed? She could hardly wait to eat the cookies and she said, "she's falling asleep because the cookies are taking too long to cook..". Samantha's 3rd Lesson in baking was making Chocolate Chip Cookies. She was so excited helping me gather all the ingredients and the baking tools we needed. We prepared everything on the table and she set the oven to 375degrees F. We also decided to use the portable mixer so she could get used to handling a mixer. The first time she handled the mixer, I told her "pretend you are the strongest girl on earth and control the mixer wherever you want it to go. Do not be afraid of it". Since then on, Samantha enjoys handling the mixer. Our cookies came out so delicious and everyone enjoyed it. Although it was a little sweet to me, the cookie turned out rich and delicious. Using premium butter gives it a rich flavor. Just the way we wanted it. All ovens are different. My advise to...

A Life's Work

A Life's Work "None of us are defined by our circumstances, nor are we defined by how other people perceive us. It is up to each one of us to define ourselves, and that is a life's work." "Each of us has the ability to lead a dynamic life by pursuing our unique goals and dreams. There are no limits to what we can do." the whole world is an opportunity; it is our work to make our imprints on the highway of life. an unlimited advantage chosen by a select few, not of power and money, fame, nor fortune. the select few never try to prove themselves, for they know who they are they are confident, not pretentious. they know where they come from and they know where they're going they are at peace with themselves and their surroundings they are whole and complete.
